Baking for me goes in waves... I'll go weeks without making anything, and then suddenly I get the urge to bake like crazy for a couple of days. It may or may not coincide with my desire for dessert. Here's our latest obsession - it's incredibly simple and yet incredibly tasty.
Yum.
All I do is follow the recipe on the back of the Quaker yellow cornmeal (you can find a copy of it here), and then add about a cup of fresh blueberries. Add more or less as you desire. I've found that the baking time needs to be increased a bit.
The best part about this cornbread is we've found it works equally well for breakfast, a snack, or dessert. The worst part is it only lasts a day or two around here...
Enjoy!

nature walk.
As I write this, I'm in a tad bit of denial that the weekend is over and I'll be headed to work early tomorrow morning. This weekend was really, really great - nothing too exciting, but a lot of quality time and fun with my husband.
We've been trying to get more exercise recently, so Saturday morning, after sleeping in way too much, we checked out a walking/biking trail nearby. It was so peaceful and nice to get some fresh air, and it really couldn't have been a more beautiful day for it. We walked for about 5 and a half miles, just chatting and enjoying the surroundings.

The only problem I have with being out in the woods is I have asomewhat completely irrational fear of bears (and yes, I know that they're not at all something I have to worry about). So I about had a heart attack when Nate suddenly froze mid-step and grabbed my arm. Luckily the animal he saw was a bit less intimidating...
The fawn was so small and seriously one of the cutest things I've ever seen (and this is coming from someone who really isn't an animal lover). It must have been too young to have a proper sense of fear, because it just walked along right next to the trail as we took pictures, and eventually just sat down in the grass. When we came back along that same part of the path almost two hours later, it was still in the exact same spot.
Saturday night we saw the new Marvel movie that's out, Guardians of the Galaxy. I'm usually not a huge fan of the superhero movie, but it was one of the best movies I've seen recently - super hilarious. Today it rained outside pretty much nonstop, so we ended up hanging around the house and relaxing. This may have included me taking an unintentional nap.
And now it's off to bed to rest up for another week! What'd you do this weekend?

at the beginning.
Hi there! My name is Heather, and as of right now, this is my blog. I'm a 20-something Christian, and I've been married to my best friend for two years (does that make us newlyweds still?). His name is Nate. We just recently relocated to the Pittsburgh area for a job, and we're slowly getting used to our new surroundings and very slowly unpacking boxes (I swear they're multiplying).
I've been thinking about starting up blogging again for quite a while, and this weekend I finally got on it. I blogged several years ago, while I was finishing up college, and I loved it - especially the people that I met and the community that I got to be a part of. I stopped when Nate and I got engaged fall semester of my final year in school - I can't quite explain it, but the craziness of what felt like a million life changes at once seemed too hard to write about it. More than two years later, life has settled down quite a bit, which is definitely a good thing!
I have a pretty long commute now, and I've found that those solo drives have provided a great new time for me to be alone with my thoughts (when I'm not consuming all of my mental energy trying to avoid road rage). I decided that it was time I start writing some of those thoughts down, and I think a blog is a great place for them to go.
If you're reading this, thanks for stopping by! I'd love to get to know you, so please feel free to contact me.
